Preventing cost overruns in construction

How clients can protect themselves from construction cost overruns. After all, it's construction - when isn't there a surprise? #ADU

First, make sure EVERYTHING is included in the construction budget. Most bids do not include appliances, landscaping, sidewalks to driveways. We're happy to look through your bid to see if anything is missing.

Also, take a cue from Fannie Mae. Their renovation and construction loan guidelines require us to add a 10% contingency buffer incase of cost overruns. So if a project estimate is $200,000, then we are required to add $20,000 for a total loan amount of $220,000. This has been very helpful in times of inflation.
